Young new reinforcements strenghten Post Productie

A group of new editors made a positive mark on EMG’s Post Production department. Editors play an important role in the fast-changing media, and in order to stay in touch with the new generation we are happy that this new generation decided to join us.

It’s been a trend in the media world for the worlds of TV and online to become more and more mixed. These days a lot of videos are fast cut and they are shared via multiple platforms and media. Young people process information a lot faster than before and video content is adjusted to that.

A number of our new additions (from left to right) Junior Editors: Niels van der Ree, Michael Baatje, Alberik Wouters, Beau Rodewijk, Jesse de Giezen and Jurgen Boegborn.

Easy to identify with

The new generations of editors at EMG has grown up with this type of video and the abundance of online content. Digital natives know better than anyone what their peers want to see, and they integrate this into their editing. Our clients now also spend more time working with relatively young directors and editors, and these editors speak their language and are able to identify with them very easily.

Experience is priceless

This does not come at the expense of the ‘older’ editors at EMG. We’ve seen them cooperate very well in many areas. Experience and knowledge on one hand and enthusiasm and being in touch the younger generations on the other hand turn out to be a good combination. It creates a work environment where young and old make each other stronger, as Post Production Manager Guido van de Walle explains. “We’ll start to see a new generation of clients that look at productions in a completely different way. The YouTube generation helps experienced editors to keep up with the times. And that makes sure that EMG is ready for the future.”

Important competence

At EMG, editors – apart from their technical qualities – are mostly chosen based on their passion for the job, their social skills and their perseverance. These are important competences for an editor. Douwe Veldhuisen, EMG Commissioner at the NOS (Dutch public broadcaster), is closely involved in the training and guidance that these new group of young people receive: “What excites me is how inquisitive they are and how well they are dealing with it themselves while also helping each other. I’ve also noticed that they deal well with feedback and that they often come up with creative solutions that I hadn’t thought of myself.”

Tried and tested recipe

Douwe continues: “The last group of junior editors has been with us for about two or three years now and they are all worthy of their position. They’ve moved on to all of our clients, take on jobs abroad and are even requested by name. Douwe has noticed they are also finding their way at the NOS: “It is great to see that our junior editors have found their feet at the news, kid’s news, sports and even ‘NOS op 3’ and that they help set the tone there.”

Demand for good editors

The EMG Post Production team now consists of over fifty editors. Growing demand for high-quality passionate editors, both in the TV industry and the corporate world, means that EMG is not only supplying Avid editors, but also Adobe editors. And the demand for good editors is only set to grow further. EMG is a good place to be for the new generation. “Whether it is about entertainment, sports or reality, we are involved with all of EMG’s productions. That makes it a great learning experience for new talent”, concludes Guido.
